Two ingredients, different forms
Red dates are dried jujubes, usually larger than goji berries and often sold whole, pitted or sliced. Goji berries are smaller dried berries, also called wolfberries or 枸杞. Their different forms affect how you measure and prepare them.
Use the name on the actual product. A date snack stuffed with walnuts, a dried red date and a mixed soup pack are different foods with different ingredient lists. Do not substitute them by appearance alone.
What to compare
| Ingredient | Useful buying checks | In the kitchen |
|---|---|---|
| Red dates | Whole, pitted or sliced; net weight; stated variety. | Check for hard pits and follow the recipe’s cutting directions. |
| Goji berries | Product name, net weight, condition and storage directions. | Use the amount and addition stage given by the recipe. |
| Mixed soup pack | Full ingredient list and supplied quantities. | Check what fresh ingredients must be added separately. |
Three packs to compare in our range
| Pack or form | Useful distinction | Before choosing |
|---|---|---|
| Whole sulphur-free red dates | Whole-date options with different listed specifications. | Select the required size and pack; check and remove pits when your recipe calls for it. |
| Seedless red dates, 500g | A listed pitted form for recipes calling for seedless dates. | Check for any remaining pit fragments before use. |
| Ningxia goji berries, L 250g | A separate berry ingredient, not a replacement for a date pack. | Choose it for a recipe using goji berries and measure the recipe’s amount. |

Choose a practical pack size
Think about how often you cook with the ingredient and how you will store it after opening. Compare equivalent products by weight. A larger date or a larger pack is not automatically a better choice for every household.
Check seals and labels when the order arrives. Follow the stated storage conditions and keep labels with the contents if you transfer them into containers. Do not combine new and old batches without cleaning the container and keeping track of dates.
Prepare for the recipe
For products intended for cooking, rinse or prepare them as the pack directs. Check whole dates for pits and remove them when required; pitted products still deserve a quick check for fragments. Use clean equipment for cutting.
Red dates can be used in suitable savoury or sweet soups. Goji berries also appear in soups and other cooked dishes. Some recipes add the berries later to retain more of their shape, so follow the chosen method rather than assuming both ingredients should always go into the pot together.
Build flavour without guessing quantities
Start with a recipe you trust and taste the finished dish before adding extra sweetener. Dried fruit, sweetened ingredients and other additions can change the result. Consider the full mix rather than adding every pantry ingredient you own.
